How Tek Contracts saves 10 hours per person every week - with one system running the whole business

Business name: Tek Contracts
Location: Staffordshire, UK

When Tek Contracts set out to find software that could run both their fit-out and joinery operations in one place, nothing in the UK could deliver what they needed. So they looked further afield – all the way to Australia, where they found Nexvia.

Convinced it was the right fit, they worked closely with the team to adapt the platform to their specific needs, becoming Nexvia’s first UK client. It was a big call – but the alternative was more of the same.

Chris Perrior, Tek’s Managing Director, had been holding everything together manually: five or six spreadsheets, often updated late at night, with no clear view of jobs, costs or performance across the business.

Nexvia changed that. Today, everything sits in one place – job visibility, costs, sign-offs and team communication – all running through a single system the whole business works from.

“It’s probably saving maybe 10 hours a week per person - quite easily.”

About Tek Contracts

Founded in 2005, Tek Contracts is a family-owned joinery and fit-out business based in Burntwood, Staffordshire. With a 13,000 sq. ft. facility and a team of 19, they deliver bespoke joinery and commercial fit-outs across the UK – working across retail, leisure and healthcare. They design, manufacture and install in-house, with everything from factory to site operating as one business.

The challenge

When Tek’s Managing Director, Chris Perrior, went looking for software to tie his business together, he kept hitting the same wall.

“The common theme was that there was no integration between software for construction and fit-out and the joinery side. Nothing really tied the two businesses together. You’d have to have separate software for each.”

Every platform he evaluated treated construction and joinery as separate problems – meaning he’d end up running two systems that still didn’t talk to each other. So the business ran on spreadsheets instead.

“Before Nexvia it was all Excel - probably spread over five or six sheets. Most of it was put together by myself - sitting down late at night or early mornings, just tracking and inputting information.”

There was no single view of performance across the business. Documents lived in server folders nobody could navigate quickly. Every invoice and purchase order required manual sign-off.

Variations were regularly missed as projects progressed – only pieced together at the end, when the team was already stretched.

Communication wasn’t much better. Without a central system to log tasks or track conversations, the path of least resistance was walking over to someone’s desk.

“It was just easier to walk over to someone’s desk and ask them to do a task than to create notes.”

And critically, none of it was connected. So Chris kept looking – and kept coming back to Nexvia.

Why Nexvia

Chris first reached out to Nexvia’s Australian-based team in 2021. Then again in 2022 and 2023. Each time the answer was the same – not yet, as the platform wasn’t set up for the UK market.

But having found nothing else that could manage the full business cycle – from leads and tenders through to projects, costs and contractor management – while connecting both sides of the business, he kept coming back.

Then in December 2023, after a frustrating demo with a US-based platform, he came off the call, went straight to LinkedIn, found Nexvia’s co-founder and emailed him directly.

"Within a couple of hours I had an email back saying, ‘Let’s get this sorted.’"

From January 2024, both teams worked together to adapt the platform for the UK market. As Nexvia’s first UK client, Chris became more than an early adopter – he became a foundation client, helping shape how the platform’s workflows and processes evolved to meet the demands of the UK construction industry.

His input didn’t just get Tek Contracts up and running: it helped lay the groundwork for how Nexvia would support future UK clients.

It wasn’t an overnight fix, but after years of searching for something that could truly connect the joinery and project delivery sides of his business, Chris was prepared to wait for it to be done properly.

What changed with Nexvia

Chris is the first to admit the transition wasn’t immediate.

"I was so used to doing my spreadsheets my way that I was trying to dump my Excel documents into the software and make it work the same way."

But once the team adjusted, the difference was clear. Work that had been scattered across spreadsheets and email chains now lives in one place. Bills that once required back-and-forth to reconcile now come in, match automatically and need no follow-up. Costs that used to surface late in a project – or get missed entirely – are now captured as they happen.

"A lot of that communication is just automated now through Nexvia, as opposed to sitting in a room having conversations. A bill comes in, it matches, and no conversation is needed."

The visibility Chris had been chasing for years is there too.

"I'm not having to trawl through loads of subfolders on the server to find paperwork. I can just find it sitting on Nexvia."

One conversation with Nexvia’s co-founder also shifted how Chris thinks about cost control – not just tracking spend, but reducing it as projects progress. Instead of accepting supplier quotes as-is, the focus is on managing costs throughout the project.

"We've gone through many jobs where we'd just get a quote, accept it, and pay the traders. Whereas he's looking to get a bit of a discount on that bill, track those costs as the fit-out progresses, and squeeze them down."

Across the team, the result so far is consistent: roughly 10 hours saved per person, every week.

It’s also gone further than he expected. These days he finds himself on the platform in his downtime – adjusting templates, testing configurations and figuring out what else it can do.

Why it matters

Tek Contracts is 21 years old. It has survived COVID, rebuilt its workforce and deliberately changed the way it operates – cutting out weekend work to hold onto good people and running leaner and smarter than before.

For years, growth meant more complexity: more spreadsheets, more chasing, more risk of things falling through the gaps. What it needed was a platform that could keep up – one system where both sides of the business could finally operate in the same place.

That’s what it has now. And they’re only just getting started with the platform’s project management and reporting capabilities.

"Once we've got the last few items ticked off, we can go out and sell ourselves even more and start increasing the volume. That's the plan."
